A Statement About that Statement

Hey! Hi!

Mea Culpa. I fucked up. And I apologize to everyone who was offended by the sentiments expressed in my AI statement post.

I would like to take the opportunity to explain and correct. I’m sure this will be used as additional fodder to flame me, but there are many artists who I’ve worked with over the years who I respect and care about and I realize that they have been hurt by my clumsy, poorly-presented gesture. And I am truly, genuinely sorry for the pain that has caused.

I understand the opinions you all have expressed; I’ve never, at any point, disagreed with them. I am a writer and editor by profession and have watched decent jobs for myself and my colleagues disappear, due to AI, as well as general budget restraints and corner-cutting. Goth Pride Market – Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who took part in our Goth Pride Market at Ground Control yesterday.

It is an honour and a pleasure to be able to support and promote the many talented artists and artisans who are part of the local goth and queer communities.

Heartfelt appreciation to everyone at Ground Control, who are such an integral part of both communities, and who have helped us grow our weird little market into such a joyful and successful event. Thanks to our amazing vendors, and to everyone who came out and supported local artisans by purchasing their wares.

We’re back at Ground Control on August 16th for our Goth Beach Party Market – so mark your calendars, and grab your parasol and your coffin-shaped pool floatie and come check us out! Vendor call for this market ends on Tuesday, June 24th, so if you are an artisan considering applying, better do it soon!

Also keep an eye out in mid-July for the vendor call for the Dark Arts Market Canada online Halloween market. This online-only event will feature 50 vendors from across Canada over 3 days in September.

If you missed us and want to check out some other in-person events, Ghostwood Market is at Parkdale Hall on Saturday, June 28th, and then again on August 2nd with a terrarium-themed market. And make sure you don’t miss the Something Strange Oddities and Curiosities Market on Sunday July 20th at Revival – not just a market but a whole museum of oddities and a fun sideshow that’s sure to freak you out!

Looking for other markets outside of Toronto? Check out the Dark Arts Market Canada Resources page (or our Instagram or Facebook accounts) for a list of alternative markets from coast to coast.

Again HUGE thank to everyone who was with us yesterday, we wish you all a safe and happy Pride!
